A student of the college of Paratechnology at the Academy, Gwendolyn is coerced into 'volunteering' for a workstudy position at the library. Called a 'perpetual student' by Drusilla, there is some doubt as to whether she ever plans on graduating. Gwendolyn was raised by an ancient, mysterious warrior society called the Shak'nai. She has an encyclopedic knowldge of weapons and paratechnical devices, but apparently has little in the way of actual magical ability.
A former bouncer, Drusilla has built up a considerable reputation as a bruiser. Supernaturally strong, she is occasionally accused of being a demigod. Drusilla takes offense at this and claims her strength is due to being an half-ogre (she takes after her mother). As explanations go, her claim would be even less creditable than the demi-god rumor if it wasn't actually true. Drusilla signed up to work at the library after being fired from her 83rd job as a bouncer.
One of the younger faculty members of the Academy, Ralston is a Weather Mage who trained in a provincial college. A playboy at heart, Ralston is known to 'dally' with female students. As he has no real authority and is not a member of the teaching staff, this indiscretion is usually overlooked (unless another faculty member has a pressing need to blackmail him). Ralston has the dubious privilage of being Gwendolyn's current romantic interest.
A student of the college of Elemental Magic at the Academy. Morgan has enormous magical potential, but almost no control over her abilities. She is a long term friend of Gwendolyn's and the youngest daughter of a prominant family of mages.
Little is know about the dark elf named Kelthyn, but he appears to be in competition with Gwendolyn and Drusilla for collecting the Bibles Universalis. Elves are know to be formidable combatants, and as a dark elf Kelthyn was raised into a martial tradition second only to the Shak'nai.
